A Lifetime of Service

Mr. K has lived in Kingsland for over 25 years. You may have seen him working at Walmart before he retired, or perhaps he fed you during his years as a chef managing a Golden Corral and working for Chartwells Educational Dining. Before serving our community, he served our country in the Air Force Strategic Air Command (SAC) with the 92nd Combat Support Group.

The Medical Battle

Now in his 70s, Mr. K is fighting his toughest battles yet. He has already beaten prostate cancer and survived esophageal cancer (which required the removal of his esophagus). He is currently fighting—and slowly winning—a battle against kidney cancer. Despite his resilience, his physical condition limits his ability to maintain his home.

The Critical Situation

Mr. K and his wife live in a single-wide mobile home with their small dogs. The conditions have become dangerous for someone in his fragile health:

  • Sanitation Hazard: A sewage pipe beneath the home has ruptured and is leaking.
  • No Heat or Hot Water: The home has no functioning heater, A/C, or hot water.
  • Safety Risk: There are currently no working smoke detectors.
  • Accessibility: The wooden deck ramp has rotted through, making it unsafe for him to use his walker to get to medical appointments.

Specific Items Needed

  • PVC Piping & Fittings (Sewer)
  • Treated Lumber (Ramp)
  • Heating Unit Repair Parts
  • Smoke Detectors (2)

Can you volunteer?

We have a plumber, but need general labor help for the ramp construction.
